The B850 Tomahawk MAX WiFi is a solid, well-built motherboard that delivers exactly what you expect from MSI’s Tomahawk lineup. Build quality is excellent, VRMs run cool, BIOS options are comprehensive, and overall system stability has been very good. WiFi performance is reliable, and the board feels well-suited for both gaming and productivity builds.

That said, a noticeable downside is coil whine. On my unit, the noise is audible even at idle and persists regardless of load, which can be distracting in a quiet room. This slightly detracts from an otherwise premium experience and is something MSI should address with better component tuning or QA.

Overall, it’s a strong and capable motherboard with great features and performance, but the coil whine keeps it from being a perfect recommendation—especially for users sensitive to noise.

This board delivers strong performance, and solid cooling the making it a dependable choice. Would've loved to see a 20 or 40G type c ports in the rear, I think that is a missed opportunity, but overall I've had good experience with MSI motherboards in the past and I hope this one will last a long time, until my next upgrade.

Build quality is excellent, and it includes everything you’d want—PCIe 5.0, Gen5 M.2 support, Wi-Fi 7, and 5Gb LAN. It made my Ryzen 7 9800X3D build super easy with smart features like a tool-less M.2 latch and debug LEDs.

BIOS is clean and overclocking is simple. The only downside is that USB4 is missing, and you need to check the manual to avoid M.2 lane sharing issues. Some users also report brief boot delays due to RAM training, but it’s fixable in BIOS.
